State Fire Marshal Steve Jones and I recently had a conversation regarding emergency orders, and notice of violations. He has seen numerous instances where a local fire department did not provide proper notification of appeal rights when issuing an emergency order or notice of violations. As a result, when that person or business challenged the order, it delayed enforcement, as the order had to be re-issued with proper notice first before it could be enforced.
If you are a local fire department, take a few minutes today. Download the attached model template and ensure you are providing proper notice the first time you issue orders - this will only assist in enforcing the order when necessary.
